Spirometer Market is valued at USD 884.3 Million in 2021 and expected to reach USD 1859.2 Million by 2028 with the CAGR of 11.2% over the forecast period.
Global Spirometer Market: Global Size, Trends, Competitive, Historical & Forecast Analysis, 2022-2029- Increasing incidences of respiratory diseases, rising advancements in diagnostic tools, and growing prevalence of tobacco smoking are some of the major factors driving the growth of the Global Spirometer Market.
A spirometer is the most common pulmonary function test (PFTs). It measures lung function, specifically the amount (volume) and/or velocity (flow) of air that can be inhaled and exhaled. A spirometer is useful for evaluating breathing patterns in identifying conditions such as asthma, pulmonary fibrosis, cystic fibrosis, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). There are three types of spirometers; table-top spirometers, PC-based spirometers, and hand-held spirometers. Table-tops are widely used in clinics and hospitals. Hand-held is easy to use and is used in home care and general practice by smokers and asthmatics. Moreover, a desktop spirometer is used especially for the diagnosis of black lung, tuberculosis, chronic obstructive disease, and other respiratory diseases. It is also useful as part of a health monitoring system, in which breathing patterns are measured over time. Interpretation of spirometer tests is difficult and depends on patient cooperation and physicians' knowledge of reference values.
The Covid-19 pandemic has also impacted on the growth of the global spirometer market. As the spread of Covid-19 continues throughout the global community, major market players are actively supporting health systems and healthcare professionals. The pandemic has stunted growth in many economies in various sectors. Furthermore, the chronic obstructive pulmonary disease is the third-leading cause of death. The incidences of respiratory diseases has increased due to the outbreak of Covid-19. Thus, the number of ARDS patients requiring respiratory support increased the demand for spirometers.
The global spirometer market is segmented on the product, technology, application, end-use and region & country level. Based on the product, the global spirometer market is segmented into consumables & accessories, devices and software. By application, the global spirometer market is segmented into COPD, asthma and other. By end-use, the global spirometer market is segmented into clinics, hospitals, and homecare.
One of the major factors driving the growth of the spirometer market is the increasing incidences of respiratory diseases. Among the world's leading causes of death, respiratory diseases are five of the top 30 causes. COPD is the third leading cause of death. Early detection & diagnosis can go a long way in treating these diseases. Spirometry is an important technology in this aspect and helps in understanding the severity of the infection and avoids misdiagnosis. And, Age reduces the efficiency of vital organs and processes in the body. For instance, according to the Annals of Global Health, on January 22nd, 2019; 4 million people die prematurely from chronic respiratory disease. Therefore, the increasing incidence of respiratory diseases is expected to fuel the market growth over the forecast period.
In addition, the rising advancements in diagnostic tools are also boosting the growth of the global spirometer market. Pulmonary function tests are necessary to assess the basic function of the lungs. By evaluating the PFT, which includes lung volume, lung capacity, flow rate, and gas exchange, doctors get information that helps diagnose many lung disorders, especially chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Technological developments are expected to have a major impact on the market growth. High investment by major market players for extensive R & D of novel and advanced diagnostic & monitoring technologies is expected to enable early diagnosis of COPD. The underutilization of pulmonary function tests has been overcome by the development of portable, handheld, and user-friendly spirometry devices. For instance; on January 9th, 2020; US FDA cleared NuvoAir's connected spirometer device. Air Next is designed for patients with respiratory conditions such as COPD, asthma, and cystic fibrosis. Thus, continuous innovation is also fostering the market growth.
Moreover, the growing prevalence of tobacco smoking is also supplementing the spirometer market growth. For instance; according to World Health Organization, in 2020, 22.3% of the global population used tobacco, 36.7% of all men and 7.8% of women. However, the lack of awareness about the signs and symptoms of respiratory diseases, and the largely untreated population associated with spirometers may hinder the growth of the global spirometer market. Despite that, an increase in initiatives taken by authorities and governments to improve healthcare systems and spread awareness regarding the benefits of spirometers may create more opportunities for the further growth of the global spirometer market.
Geographically, North America is expected to capture a major share of the global spirometer market within the forecast period due to the increasing geriatric population, rising adoption of spirometers for diagnosis of COPD, asthma, other respiratory diseases, and growing preference for the management of respiratory diseases in this region. For example, according to Rural Health Information Hub, on April 6th, 2019; there were 46 million people aged 65 in the US. The number of geriatric populations is projected to double to 90 million by 2050. In addition, the rising adoption of spirometers for the diagnosis of COPD, asthma, and other respiratory diseases is another factor supplementing the market growth in this region. For instance; on March 16th, 2021; Vyaire Medical launched a novel remote aiocare mobile spirometer.
The Asia Pacific is the fastest-growing region in the global spirometer market due to the increasing geriatric population, rise in population, and growing healthcare expenditure and developing guidelines in this region. For instance; according to ageing Asia, in 2019, they were 139 million people aged 65 in India.
