Global Targeting Pods Market: Global Size, Trends, Competitive, Historical & Forecast Analysis, 2021-2027. Increasing defense budgets of various countries and growing demand of aircraft targeting systems are the significant factors driving the growth of the Global Targeting Pods Market.
Global Targeting Pods Market is valued at USD 3878.1 Million in 2020 and expected to reach USD 6026.4 Million by 2027 with a CAGR of 6.5% over the forecast period.
Ground attack aircraft use Targeting Pods to identify targets and guide precision guided munitions (PGM) such as laser guided bombs to those targets. The design of laser guided bombs requires “laser spot tracker” that locates reflected pulsed laser light from a designated target. Many Targeting Pods or installations use the sensor as the laser spot tracker to receive the reflected rangefinder signal, so they can perform both ranging and tracking. All sensors are integrated into a single pod in Targeting Pods to enable many missions, such as target detection, recognition, and identification, laser at stand-off, EO tracking of multi-stationary objects, auto detection of multiple dynamic and aerial targets, and so on. There are various types of Targeting Pods like laser spot tracker pods, laser designator pods, FLIR pods, FLIR and laser designator pods and radar homing pods. Targeting Pods offer superior targeting capabilities via exceptionally long detection, ID ranges, recognition. It uses MWIR, SWIR, HD color sensors. Targeting Pods enables cooperative missions with target hand-over by laser spot detection and laser marking, utilizing night Vision goggles. Targeting Pods are used in aircraft and military forces i.e. in defense sector to detect the targets. In 1960 first Targeting Pods were developed in conjunction with the earliest generation of PGMs.
Covid-19 pandemic has a shown a decline impact on the growth of global Targeting Pods market because of major fabricating plants of Targeting Pods that were totally stopped their production in response to lockdown by numerous countries across the world. The manufacturers are forced to shut down the production operations due to lockdown condition. Military forces were witnessing delay in procurement of Targeting Pods due to disruption in supply chain.
The Targeting Pods market is divided into types, component type, fit type, platform type and regions & country level. On the basis of types, the Targeting Pods market is segmented into FLIR & Laser Designator Pods, Laser Designator Pods and Laser Spot Tracker pods. Based on component type the market segmented into FLIR Sensor, charged coupled device (CCD), environmental control unit (ECU), moving map system (MMS), video data link, digital data recorder, processor and high definition (HD) TV. Based on fit type the market is segmented into OEM fit and Upgradation Fit. On the basis of platform type the market is segmented into combat aircraft, UAV, attack helicopters and bombers.

News: France Gave IAF Demo of New targeting System on Rafale
On October 2nd, 2020; The French defense ministry had revealed that an Indian Air Force pilot was given a demonstration of a new target acquisition system meant for the Rafale fighter. The French defense ministry informed on its website earlier this week that an Indian Air Force pilot on a Rafale F3R fighter on September 22 that was equipped with the TALIOS target acquisition pod. The TALIOS (Targeting Long-Range Identification Optronic System) was developed by French company Thales and deliveries to French navy and air force began in 2018. The French defense ministry said the purpose of the flight is to demonstrate the capabilities of THLIOS in the air-to-air, air-to-ground and air-to-sea domains.
Increasing Defense Budgets of Various Countries and Increasing Demand of Aircraft Targeting Systems are the Significant Factors Driving the Market Growth
Increasing defense budgets of various countries is one of the major driving factors for the global Targeting Pods market. For instance; according to Global Aerospace and Defense Industry Outlook 2019, the defense budget of UK is about US$ 52 billion and this could increase up to US$ 78 billion in few years. Also the defense budget of India in 2018 was US 43.8 billion and by 2025 India is expected to become “third largest” aviation market and supply about 478 million passengers. Similarly the defense budgets of countries like France, Japan is increasing in recent years. Targeting pods are used in aircrafts and defense systems for identifying targets and guiding precision guided munitions (PGM). In addition, rising demand of aircraft targeting systems is another major factor fostering the growth of global targeting pods market. For instance; according to FAA 2019, FAA forecasts the small UAS model fleet will likely more than double in size over the next five years. From the present 1.1 million units to over 2.4 million units, by 2022 the sUAS non-model fleet will likely grow from the current 110,604 registered aircraft to over 450,000. So the increasing demand of aircraft targeting systems will simultaneously increase the demand of targeting pods.
Furthermore, increasing research and development, growing adaption of short wave infrared (SWIR), increasing adaption of moving map systems (MMP) and increasing military aircraft procurement by various countries are some other factors supplementing the market growth. However, high cost in development of Targeting Pods, technical constraints of manufacturing and strict rules against transfer of technology may hamper the market growth. In spite of that, the developments in optical electro-targeting systems and fifth generation fighter aircrafts may offer new pathways in the global targeting pods market.
Asia Pacific is Expected to Witness a Fastest Growth in the Global Targeting Pods Market
Asia Pacific region is expected to witness a fastest growth in the global Targeting Pods market owing to the rising increasing research and development activities and growing investments in defense services. Europe is expected to capture the significant share in the global targeting pods market over the forecast period due to the presence of prominent targeting pods providers in this region. For instance; according to Russian and Chinese Combat air Trends 2020, Russian aerospace forces maintained an active service inventory of 795 fast jet aircraft alongside 126 heavy bomber aircraft while the naval aviation of the Navy operated a further 126 fast jets. The Su-27 was initially developed by Russia as superior air fighter. Also VKS Sukhoi Su-30SM also developed. As per the news published in November 2018, Thales Group reports that its new generation Talios laser targeting pods successfully completed qualification testing by the French defense procurement agency (DGA).
