Scope of Global Epichlorohydrin Market Report-

Epichlorohydrin (curtailed ECH) is an organochlorine compound and an epoxide. In spite of its name, it's anything but a halohydrin. It is a colourless fluid with a sharp, garlic-like smell, decently dissolvable in water, however miscible with most polar organic solvents. It is a chiral particle by and large existing as a racemic combination of right-handed and left-handed enantiomers. Epichlorohydrin is an exceptionally receptive electrophilic compound and is utilized in the development of plastics, glycerol, epoxy pastes and saps, epoxy diluents, and elastomers. Epichlorohydrin is generally fabricated from allyl chloride in two stages, starting with the expansion of hypochlorous plastics,, which manages the cost of a combination of two isomeric alcohols. Epichlorohydrin was first described in 1848 by Marcellin Berthelot. The compound was separated during studies on responses among glycerol and vaporous hydrogen chloride.

The Covid-19 pandemic has shown a negative impact on the growth of the global Epichlorohydrin market. During the Covid-19 pandemic, many nations gone through shutdown, and the development of items was at an end. Because of low production in many areas, the demand for Epichlorohydrin was diminished. Further, the construction work had halted in practically all locales as paintings and coatings contribute exceptionally to the market which also affected the market. However, the use of Epichlorohydrin in the pharmaceutical industry is expected to increase the demand for the product, as pharmaceuticals are the only industry that is fully operational during this pandemic.

News-

Hexion to Expand Production of Epichlorohydrin in the Netherlands

On January 3rd, 2022; Hexion Corp. announced plans to increase production of epichlorohydrin (ECH) at its Pernis, Netherlands, production site, as well as taking advantage of more sustainable technology upon completion. As part of Hexion’s Coating and Composites business unit’s comprehensive investment plan to increase innovation and align with the company’s overall sustainability, the planned expansion will add 25,000 metric tons annually and use biobased renewable feedstocks using glycerin-to-hydride glycerin production technology and supports the reduction of the total energy intensity of ECH production at the Pernis site.

TechnipFMC Announced First Technology License for Epichlorohydrin from Renewable Feedstock in India

On October 28th, 2019; TechnipFMC announced that it signed the first EPICEROL technology licensing agreement with Meghmani Finechem Ltd (MFL) in India. The 50 kta (1) capacity plant has produced epichlorohydrin from glycerin, which is a renewable feedstock derived from natural sources. The unit has integrated into Dahej, Gujarat, Chlor Alkali, and Derivatives Complex in India to cater to the growing domestic epichlorohydrin market. MFL becomes the first in India to produce epichlorohydrin with an expected plant start-up of 2021.

Increasing Use of Epichlorohydrin-Based Resins in Textile, Rising Use of Bio-based Feedstock, and Growing Demand for Paints and Coatings in the Construction Sector are Some of the Major Factors Driving the Market Growth

One of the major factors driving the growth of the epichlorohydrin market is the increasing use of epichlorohydrin-based resins in textiles. Epichlorohydrin is used to modify carboxyl groups of wool in the textile sector. The resulting product has long and good resistance to moths. Epichlorohydrin is also used to make protein-modified, wool-like fibers that have an acid colour appeal and are immune to both mold and insects. In addition, it is used to make colour-capable polypropylene fibers, polyolefin, polyacrylonitrile, polyvinyl chloride, polyvinyl alcohol, and other fibers. It is also used to resist wrinkles and to create anti-static agents and fabric shapes. Epichlorohydrin derivatives show efficacy as reducing, dispersing, softening, emulsifying, and washing agents. Thus, due to these factors, the demand for epichlorohydrin (ECH) is expected to increase over the expected period.

In addition, the rising use of bio-based feedstock is also boosting the growth of the epichlorohydrin market. Bio-based feedstock’s are developed using advanced and patented processes based on glycerol. Glycerol is a by-product of sustainable feedstock and biodiesel and oleo chemical products. This provides significant environmental benefits compared to propylene-based ECH from fossil fuels. A bio-based feedstock is produced using 100% renewable carbon using low and low energy in GWP (Global Warming Potential). Due to such features, it is used in applications such as paper chemicals, water treatment chemicals, optical lens monomers, synthetic rubbers, and the electronics industry. Thus, consumers are becoming more aware of the adverse environmental effects of propylene and the benefits of using bio-based products. Bio-based methods will have a positive impact on the epichlorohydrin market and will lead to its future development. For instance; as per the news published, on December 8th, 2021; INOVYN launched the world's first commercially available grade of bio-attributed epichlorohydrin from renewable feedstock.

Moreover, its growing demand for paints and coatings in the construction sector is also supplementing the market growth. Due to its anti-slip texture, epoxy resins are utilized in the construction business to make floor materials in high-traffic regions like malls, manufacturing buildings, and medical clinics. Epoxy gums are utilized in the assembling of adhesives, coatings, fibers, primers, paints, sealers, flooring, and different items and materials utilized in building and design applications, because of their hardness, chemical resistance, great adhesion, and other high-level properties. Epoxy based-paints and coatings are eco-friendly and consume less energy than heat-restored coatings. For instance, as per the Global Exchange Organization, in China, the construction business is estimated to develop at an annual average of 5% in genuine terms somewhere in the range of 2019 and 2023.

However, the strict emission norms and guidelines set by the government for the creation of Epichlorohydrin may hinder the growth of the global epichlorohydrin market. Despite that, environmental environmentally friendly techniques and growing awareness may create more opportunities for the further growth of the market.

Asia Pacific is Expected to Witness a Significant Growth in the Global Epichlorohydrin Market

Geographically, Asia Pacific is expected to show a significant growth in the global Epichlorohydrin market within the forecast period due to the rising use of bio-based feedstock, increasing demand from the construction industry and growing infrastructural development in this region. The rising use of bio-based feedstock is another factor boosting the market growth in this region. For instance; as per the news published; on October 28th, 2019; TechnipFMC announced the first technology license for Epichlorohydrin from renewable feedstock in India. TechnipFMC declared that it marked its most memorable EPICEROL Technology License Agreement with Meghmani Finechem Ltd (MFL) in India. The 50 kta (1) limit plant will deliver Epichlorohydrin from glycerin, a renewable feedstock got from normal sources. The unit will be coordinated into the Chlor Salt and Subsidiary Complex in Dahej, Gujarat, India, to serve the developing domestic Epichlorohydrin market. Moreover, the increasing construction activities in the Asia Pacific region also drive the growth of the market. For instance; as per the Government of Japan, drives are taken by the Japanese government to cooperate with privately owned businesses to present current building technologies in the development area, utilizing Information and Communication Technologies (ICT).

North America is the fastest-growing region in the global Epichlorohydrin market due to increasing demand for Epichlorohydrin from various industries such as electronics, pharmaceutical, industrial, textile, and automotive, and the presence of key players in this region.
