Special Purpose Battery Market Overview:

The Global Special Purpose Battery Market is valued at USD 16.08 Billion in 2024 and is expected to reach USD 33.7 Billion by 2030 with a CAGR of 12.3% over the forecast period. The increasing demand for reliable power solutions in critical sectors like healthcare, aerospace, and renewable energy, alongside advancements in battery technology, which enhance performance and longevity for specific applications are accelerating the growth of special purpose batteries across the regions.

Scope of Global Special Purpose Battery Market Report:

Electricity is provided through a special energy storage system for a variety of uses. All the active components in a special purpose battery undergo an electrochemical redox reaction (electrochemical oxidation-reduction) to produce electricity. Special purpose batteries operate on an electric circuit where an electron is changed from one substance to another. It has two terminals: a cathode, which is positive, and an anode, which is negative. Redox reactions change high-energy reactants into lower-energy products when a battery is connected to an external electric load, and the free-energy variation is sent to the external circuit as electrical energy. Lithium-ion batteries are used as specialized batteries.

The overall impact of COVID-19 outbreak has negative on the special purpose battery market. The results of the coronavirus worldwide pandemic have flowed through many lives and have flip over aspects of health care, transportation, and the economy in almost every country. As industries shut down globally, road traffic ground to a stop, and the demand for electric automobiles plummeted. As electric automobiles are working on battery, the demand for that special purpose battery during COVID-19 is decreased.

News:

Ola is currently in discussions with numerous international suppliers to secure $1 billion for cell manufacturing.

On June 7th, 2022- Ola Electric, backed by SoftBank Group, is actively engaging in discussions with several international suppliers to establish a battery cell production facility in India, boasting a potential capacity of up to 50 gigawatt-hours, according to a report by the news agency PTI. This ambitious endeavor is primarily driven by Ola Electric's requirement for 40 gigawatt-hours of battery capacity to sustain an annual production of 10 million electric scooters. The surplus capacity will be allocated to fuel the company's forthcoming electric car manufacturing plans.

Global Special Purpose Battery Market Drivers:

Increased demand for lithium-ion batteries in automobiles is driving the growth of the special-purpose battery market. Lithium-ion batteries are currently the most suitable energy storage device, mostly for electric vehicles, having some excellent properties like high energy efficiency, minimum memory effect, longer life, higher energy, and power density. Due to the above property, this lithium-ion battery is lighter in weight than other conventional rechargeable batteries.

For example, the combined battery capacity of recently introduced all-electric vehicles in the United States reached approximately 18.1 gigawatts, highlighting a surge in the demand for lithium-ion batteries, which is driving market growth.

The increasing demand for electric vehicles is also expected to quicken market growth. Emerging investments in electric vehicles are deemed a major driver for the market for special-purpose batteries. In the present era, companies such as Daimler AG, Ford Motor Company, and Groupe Renault are investing heavily in their plans for more research or advancement on EVs.

For instance, on September 8, 2023, Cummins, Daimler, and PACCAR joined forces to establish a collaborative venture aimed at advancing the production of battery cells in the United States. The joint venture envisions the construction of a factory with an annual capacity to produce 21 GWh of battery cells. The collective investment in this new facility is expected to fall within the range of $2–3 billion. This strategic move aligns with the goal of electrifying the Mercedes-Benz lineup by 2022, incorporating approximately 130 electric vehicles (EVs) into their offerings. Consequently, the special-purpose battery market is witnessing significant growth because of these developments.

Global Special Purpose Battery Market Restraint & Opportunity:

High cost for manufacturing EVs, low awareness, Lack of charging infrastructure these factors may hinder the growth of special purpose battery market. Furthermore, with increasing awareness and adoption of electric vehicles, numerous key players and governments are funding for development of special purpose battery & investing their plans which will boost the demand for special purpose battery in near future.

Global Special Purpose Battery Market Regional Analysis:

Geographically, North America accounts for the highest share in the special-purpose battery market. The increasing demand for electric vehicles in the U.S. is due to supportive national policies, paired with the presence of the market. Key players in the region are projected to drive demand for special-purpose batteries in the U.S. over the forecast period. Also, the U.S. government has been actively promoting the interests of the renewable energy sector and electric vehicles (EVs), leading to a notable increase in the demand for battery energy storage systems (BESS). This surge is primarily driven by the adoption of Li-ion batteries for specialized purposes. As a case in point, the United States witnessed substantial growth in the sale of electric cars, with over 320,000 units sold in the first quarter of 2023, marking a 60% increase compared to the same period in 2022. This growth trend has had a direct impact on the demand for special-purpose batteries. Moreover, the growing emphasis on fuel efficiency is expected to further propel the demand for batteries in various applications.

In addition, Asia Pacific is the fastest growing region for the special-purpose battery market. Increasing investment for advancement in network structure and the market structure to attract foreign investments will boost the market for special-purpose batteries. In Asia, countries such as China, India, Japan, South Korea, and the Philippines are violently promoting the renewal of grids and developing their ability to handle the strains of the present and future. Special-purpose batteries are being organized to support smart grids, fit in renewables, etc. Moreover, increasing demand for high-quality rechargeable batteries and increasing demand for user electronics are responsible for the growth of the special-purpose battery market.
