Global Hemodialysis Catheters is valued at US$ 807.5 Million in 2022 and it is expected to reach US$ 1143.8 Million by 2029 with a CAGR of 5.1% over the forecast period.
Global Hemodialysis Catheters Market: Global Size, Trends, Competitive, Historical & Forecast Analysis, 2023-2029- Increasing prevalence of chronic kidney disease, technological advancements in hemodialysis catheter and rising awareness about kidney diseases are major factors anticipated to drive the growth of the Global Hemodialysis Catheters Market for the forecast period.
Hemodialysis catheters are medical devices used to provide temporary access to a patient's bloodstream during hemodialysis. Hemodialysis is a medical procedure used to remove waste products and excess fluid from the blood in patients with kidney failure. Hemodialysis catheters are typically inserted into a large vein in the neck, chest, or groin area, and consist of two separate tubes: one for removing blood from the body, and another for returning the filtered blood back into the body.
These catheters are usually made of silicone or polyurethane, and are designed to be long and flexible, allowing for easy insertion and movement during the hemodialysis procedure. There are different types of hemodialysis catheters available, including tunneled catheters, non-tunneled catheters, and implanted ports. Tunneled catheters are placed under the skin and are typically used for long-term dialysis access. Non-tunneled catheters are inserted directly into a vein and are used for short-term access.
Implanted ports are surgically placed under the skin and are connected to a catheter that is inserted into a vein. Hemodialysis catheters are an important tool in the treatment of kidney failure, but they also carry risks, including infection, blood clots, and damage to blood vessels. Patients using hemodialysis catheters should be closely monitored by a healthcare professional to ensure their safety and well-being.
The Covid-19 pandemic had negative impact on the global hemodialysis catheters market. As patients with end-stage kidney disease (ESKD) who require hemodialysis are particularly vulnerable to Covid-19, and the use of hemodialysis catheters can increase the risk of infection. One of the challenges during the pandemic has been the shortage of supplies, including catheters and the necessary equipment for hemodialysis. This shortage has led to delays in treatment for some patients.
The global hemodialysis catheters market is segmented on by tip configuration, product, material, application and regional & country level. On the basis of tip configuration, the market is segmented into step-tip catheters, split-tip catheters and symmetric catheter. On the basis of product, the global hemodialysis catheters market is segmented into, cuffed tunneled catheter, non-cuffed tunneled catheters and non-tunneled catheters. On the basis of material, the market is segmented into polyurethane and silicone. On the basis of application, the global hemodialysis catheter market is into home dialysis and in-center dialysis test.
The regions covered in global hemodialysis catheters market report are North America, Europe, Asia-Pacific, Latin America and Rest of the World. On the basis of country level, the market of global hemodialysis catheters market is subdivided into U.S., Mexico, Canada, U.K., France, Germany, Italy, China, India, Japan, South East Asia, Middle East Asia (UAE, Egypt, Saudi Arabia) GCC, Africa, etc.
Some of the key players for global hemodialysis catheters market are -
The increasing prevalence of chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a significant factor driving the growth of global hemodialysis catheter market. For instance; as per the American Kidney Fund; about 31 million people in the U.S. are living with chronic kidney disease (CKD), which is roughly 10% of the overall adult population in the country. CKD is a serious and progressive condition that can lead to end-stage renal disease (ESRD), where the kidneys can no longer function adequately, and dialysis or a kidney transplant is required to survive.
The growing prevalence of CKD is a major driver for the global hemodialysis catheter market. Hemodialysis catheters are essential for patients with ESRD who require dialysis, and the demand for these devices is expected to increase as the number of patients with CKD and ESRD continues to rise.
The technological advancements in the field of hemodialysis catheter are also supplementing the market growth. There have been several technological advancements in hemodialysis catheters in recent years, aimed at improving patient outcomes and reducing complications associated with catheter use. For instance; on May 5th, 2022, Access Vascular received FDA Clearance for HydroPICC biomaterial-based dual-lumen catheter. The dual-lumen design of the HydroPICC catheter allows for simultaneous infusion and withdrawal of blood or fluids, making it more efficient for hemodialysis treatments and other medical procedures.
Additionally, the catheter features a radiopaque stripe that allows for easy visualization during placement and use. Hence, these technological advancements have improved the safety, efficiency, and effectiveness of hemodialysis catheter use, helping to improve outcomes for patients with kidney failure.
Moreover, growing awareness of the importance of early diagnosis and treatment of kidney diseases is also boosting the market growth. Governments and healthcare organizations are implementing programs to educate people about kidney diseases, leading to earlier diagnosis and treatment. This is increasing the demand for haemodialysis catheters, as more patients are being referred for dialysis which boost the market growth of global haemodialysis catheter market.
However, the risk of blood infection and strict regulations are restraining the market growth. In spite of that, research and developments in haemodialysis catheters may offer more opportunities for the further growth of global hemodialysis catheters market.
North America is expected to dominate the global hemodialysis catheters market due to increasing incidence of kidney diseases, presence of major key players and rising number of diabetes and hypertension patients, and technological advancements in the healthcare industry in this region.
The United States has major players such as Fresenius Medical Care, B. Braun Melsungen Ag and Baxter International Inc. In addition, hemodialysis is the most widely accepted treatment method in the US, and that home hemodialysis treatment is becoming more popular due to healthcare reforms and rising healthcare costs.
Moreover, the rising number of cases of diabetes is also boosting market growth of global hemodialysis in North America as diabetic people are more prone to kidney failures. For instance, as per the diabetes research organization 37.3 million people, or 11.3% of the U.S. population, have diabetes in 2022.
Asia Pacific is the second fastest growing region for the global hemodialysis catheter market due to high prevalence of kidney diseases, growing aging population and increasing healthcare expenditure. For instance; according to the United Nations Population Division. India’s population ages 60 and older is projected to increase from 8 percent in 2010 to 19 percent in 2050.
These old age people are at risk for end-stage renal disease (ESRD) and the need for hemodialysis. This is driving the demand for hemodialysis catheters in the region. Moreover, governments in the Asia Pacific region are investing heavily in healthcare infrastructure, including dialysis facilities and equipment. This is driving the demand for hemodialysis catheters, as more patients are able to access dialysis services.
