Low-voltage switchgear is generally termed as metal-enclosed or metal-clad low voltage power circuit breaker switchgear evaluated for 600V alternating current (AC) and below. The metal-enclosed switchgear is completely surrounded on all sides and top with metal sheets and has stationary primary power circuit switching with buses and connections. The metal-clad low-voltage power circuit breaker switchgear has removable circuit breakers which are contained in individual earthed metal compartments.

There are two basic low-voltage switchgear types stated as indoor and outdoor types. Indoor switchgear consists of a front section containing circuit breakers, protection relays and controls, meters, cable entrance section and bus section. The outdoor section is equivalent to the indoor switchgear except a structure that is provided for weather-proofing. Bus bars can be made of copper or aluminum.

Low Voltage Switchgear Market Segmentation:

By Product (Fixed mounting, Plug-in, Withdrawable unit), By Voltage Rating (Less than 250V, 250-750V, 751-1000V), By Installation (Indoor, Outdoor), By Application (Substation, Distribution, Power Factor Correction, Sub-Distribution, Motor Control)

Low-voltage switchgear functions with combination of monitoring, metering, control, protection, and distribution. Original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) provide a wide range of low-voltage switchgear arrangements to meet the user’s requirements. It is frequent to find installations with different automatic controls, circuit breakers, monitoring elements, and automatic transfer switches which combined in the same line-up.
