Global Aquaculture Vaccine Market: Global Size, Trends, Competitive, Historical & Forecast Analysis To 2021-2027, the Rising appearance of emerging diseases and the introduction of new species of fish for intensive culture, increases the urgency to develop new vaccines. Increasing demand for animal-derived food products in aquatic and high aquaculture production has driven the growth of global aquaculture vaccine market.

Scope of Aquaculture Vaccine Market

Vaccination is one of the effective tools for the prevention of diseases. A typical fish vaccine either create or produces a substance known as antigen which will help to stimulate or adopt immune response in fish body against particular pathogen. Vaccination efforts contribute to environmental, social, and economic sustainability in global aquaculture. Vaccination can prevent fish from the viral or bacterial infection. Most of them are focused on current vaccine applications for large-scale fish farming operations, and future trends for inactivated, live-attenuated, and DNA vaccines.

As per the current situation till now 26 vaccines are licensed and commercially available too, but majority of these vaccines utilize conventional production methods that start by culturing target pathogens. These licensed vaccines are approved by the United States department of agriculture. Fish vaccination has become one of the most important parts of aquaculture especially in yellowtail, salmonid, and sea bream industries. Vaccination has increased the survival of fish which in turn has reduced the cost of production. The first vaccine for fish was developed in 1970, and vaccine for prevention of yersiniosis in salmonid fish and was licensed in 1976 by USA.

COVID-19 pandemic has shown a negative impact on the global aquaculture vaccine market; COVID-19 has weakened the supply of raw material and has disturbed the supply chain of animal health products including the manufacturing, and demand. The stringent rules of government have also restricted the import and export of the material used in aquaculture vaccine due to increase in corona virus cases, unavailability of labor and disrupted transportation has declined the sales of the aquaculture vaccine. Reduction in the domestic demand also hampered the aquaculture vaccine market. According to the science direct, due to the pandemic fish consumption is decreased by 45%.

News:

Chennai-based CIBA has developed India’s first vaccine for killer’s virus targeting fish.

April 29th, 2021: Central Institute of Brackishwater Aquaculture (CIBA) which is based in Chennai has developed a new vaccine for virus i.e., viral nervous necrosis (VNN) disease that kills fish. The VNN disease is highly infectious to fish in marine water, fresh water and brackish water which causes 100% mortality in early juvenile phases and larvae. Infected fish act as a carrier of VNN virus and transmits it further to the offspring. The vaccination will prevent spreading of these diseases when vaccine is injected in the fingerlings and adult fish. Nodavac-R' is an injectable recombinant vaccine for fish which is highly preventable in VNN in fingerlings and further prevents vertical transmission in brooders. This vaccine can be used in most of the fish such as grey mullet, mangrove red snapper, milkfish and Asian sea bass. Also, oral vaccine through feed and immersion vaccine are still under developmental phases.

Rising appearance of emerging diseases and the introduction of new species of fish for intensive culture, increase in the urgency to develop new vaccines. Increasing demand for animal derived food products in aquatic and high aquaculture production has driven the growth of global aquaculture vaccine market

The factor that drives the global market is emergence of diseases & development of new species, rise in development of new vaccines including food products. In developing countries fish and aquaculture products are the main source of protein to combat malnutrition; fish have amino acids that lack in cereal proteins. According to the CCID, amino acid-based nutrition consist of almost 5.4 USD billion in Japan and largest amino acid manufacturers is in China contributing around 21.6%. The modern intensive fish culture consists of all growth stages of fish from brood stock to fully grown adults. This helps in the development of new species of fish or saving fish from the disease. Salmon production is on the large scale in intensive farming of sea food production. Salmon is one of the most successful productions in aquaculture species than others. According to the worldwildlife, salmon aquaculture account for almost 70% of the production for around 2.5 million metric ton.

Another factor that drives the market is the high aquaculture production which in turn increases the demand for vaccination. Almost 35 countries produced more farmed fish rather than the wild caught fish. The farmed fish are vaccinated against viral diseases. For instance, according to the NCBI, for Koi herpes virus the attenuated viral vaccine is used, for iridovirus the inactivated virus is used. Along with these vaccines the most successful vaccine is Aeromonas salmonicida against Furunculosis which is used in salmon. According to the NOAA fisheries, fish harvested from aquaculture across the globe is around 114.5 million metric tons with approximate sales value of USD 160.2 billion. However, factors that restrain the market from growth are processing the development of the new vaccines and their protocols for aquaculture vaccine. Additionally, the development of new strategies to counteract in fish diseases including the functional seed, and application of chemical therapeutics will boost the aquaculture vaccine market over the forecast period.

Europe holds the largest revenue share in the Global Aquaculture Vaccine Market.

Europe holds the largest revenue share in the market due to the development & launches of vaccine, adoption of aquaculture vaccine and increase in fish farming fueling the market growth in this region. The aquaculture vaccines have reduced the use of antibiotics and around millions of fishes are vaccinated every year. According to NCBI, after introduction of vaccines the use of antibiotics for the Norwegian salmon farming has been reduced on a large scale. According to the WHO, Norway produces around 300,000 farmed salmon per year and to prevent them from diseases they use almost 50,000 kg of antibiotics per year.

On the other hand, increase in aquaculture and seafood consumption has also increased the demand for aquaculture vaccines. Europe aquaculture accounts for almost 20% of the overall seafood production. Thus, increasing demand of the fish production give rise to vaccine supply which in turn protects fish from various diseases.

The Asia Pacific is anticipated to witness significant growth in the global aquaculture vaccine market. This region is witnessing the growth in aquaculture vaccine market due to the government initiative taken to increase fish production and investment done by governments through program or schemes. The government of India has recently launched the scheme pradhan mantra Matsya sampada yojana for the diversification in the intervention of fisheries along with the chain from production to supply. The government has invested almost 20,050 crores, which is the largest investment in the history of fisheries. According to the department of fisheries, India, the marine exports in the year of 2019-2020 is 12.9 lakh metric tons and its value was 6.68 billion USD; along with the total fish production is 14.2 million metric ton in year 2020. This fish production has increased the demand for vaccine due to the disease that is caused in the early phase of larvae. For instance, according to the aquafind.com, the vaccine for the disease Furunculosis is Aeromonas salmonicida Bacterin where mostly Atlantic salmon get affected by this virus.
